MASP

Opened in 1968, the masp is the most visited museum in the country. The incredible Masp project, designed by architect Lina Bo Bardi, has become a landmark on Paulista Avenue and an iconic symbol of the city of São Paulo. It is known for its crystal easels designed by Lina Bo Bardi, known for suspending works of art on transparent supports with the aim of bringing them closer to the public, who can thus circulate around them. MUSEU DO FUTEBOL (FOOTBALL MUSEUM)

The Football Museum is located at the Pacaembu Stadium, below the stands and was opened in 2008.
The main exhibition has 15 themed rooms and, using sound and visual experiences, the museum shows the trajectory of sport in Brazil, addresses the World Cups and shows the relationship between Brazilians and football in the 20th century, for example.

JAPAN HOUSE

São Paulo was one of three cities chosen, along with London and Los Angeles, to host the Japan House project, an initiative by the Japanese Government to disseminate the country’s ancient culture and innovative and futuristic perspectives to the international community.
Located on Paulista Avenue, the Japan House in São Paulo was designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, which features a facade with wooden louvers that reminds us of a modern and contemporary Japan. Click here to read more about Japan House

MAM (MUSEUM OF MODERN ART OF SAO PAULO)

It is located under the marquee of Ibirapuera Park, in São Paulo, in a building inserted in the architectural complex designed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1954 and renovated by Lina Bo Bardi in 1982 to house the museum. Click here to read more about Mam

MAC (MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART)

MAC was created in 1963 and since 2012 it has been installed in the architectural complex of Ibirapuera Park, designed by Oscar Niemeyer in the 1950s. It is a museum linked to the University of Sao Paulo (USP) and therefore has educational activities such as courses, research, symposiums related to the world of art.

On the roof of the building on the 8th floor, there is a terrace from where you can see the city skyline and have a privileged view of Ibirapuera Park. On this floor, there is also a restaurant called “Vista Ibirapuera“, whose menu is based on Brazilian cuisine, with dishes that value the roots and ingredients of the country’s five regions. MUBE (BRAZILIAN MUSEUM OF SCULPTURE AND ECOLOGY)

The project for the headquarters building is the result of a competition whose winner was the project by architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The Mube project consists of a semi-buried construction intended for internal exhibitions. And at street level, what you see is a square with a large exposed concrete structure, a minimalist and very elegant set, which highlights the objects or sculptures that can also be displayed there.

MUSEU AFRO BRASIL (AFRO BRAZIL MUSEUM)

It aims to be a contemporary museum where the black people can be recognized.

Over than 6,000 works highlight the importance of African people in the formation of Brazilian culture, heritage and identity as known nowadays. Also, it offers a celebration of the art and accomplishments of the Africans and Afro-Brazilians.

The Collection is considered the largest Afro – American in American with more than 6,000 masterpieces, sculptures, documents, engravings, ceramics, paintings, contemporary arts, jewelry, objects, reliefs, photographs and textiles. Website: MuseuAfroBrasil.org.br

CENTRO CULTURAL BANCO DO BRASIL (BANK OF BRAZIL CULTURAL CENTER)

The Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, or CCBB (Bank of Brazil cultural center) is located in the historic center of the city, in an area where the streets are pedestrian-only.
The 5-story building offers exhibition spaces, theater, cinema, music, an auditorium for lectures, debates and educational workshops and a coffee shop.
The Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil was opened on April 21, 2001 in this building that previously operated as a bank branch until 1996. The building has existed since 1901 and was purchased by Banco do Brasil in 1923.

Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Google Arts & Culture

PINACOTECA

The São Paulo State Pinacoteca is the oldest art museum in the city. It was founded in 1905 by the Government of the state of São Paulo, and since then, it has occupied the former building of the School of Arts and Crafts, designed by the architect Ramos de Azevedo. In the 90s, designed by architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha, the building underwent a renovation project that further qualified the building as an exhibition space.
